Perth summers are brutal on lawns. Temperatures regularly exceed 35°C, water restrictions limit irrigation, and sandy soils in Yanchep and surrounding suburbs can make it tough to keep grass green.
Here are our top tips for maintaining a healthy lawn through summer.
1. Mow Higher
Raise your mowing height during summer. Longer grass blades shade the soil, reduce evaporation, and protect roots from heat stress. We recommend keeping turf at 50-70mm during the hottest months.
2. Water Deeply, Less Often
Rather than light daily watering (which encourages shallow roots), water deeply 2-3 times per week. Early morning is best to minimise evaporation. Check your local water restrictions for allowed watering days.
3. Maintain Your Edges
Clean edges make a huge visual difference. Regular edging along paths, driveways, and garden beds keeps your property looking neat even when the lawn isn't perfectly green.
4. Weed Management
Summer weeds can quickly take over a stressed lawn. Address weeds early before they seed and spread.
5. Consider Professional Help
A regular lawn care service takes the stress out of summer maintenance. At Clean & Maintain, we offer weekly and fortnightly lawn care packages that include mowing, edging, whipper snipping, and garden maintenance.
The Clean & Maintain Advantage
Because we also offer cleaning services, you can combine your lawn care with a home clean in one booking. One team, one invoice, everything sorted.
